Ryan Carter is an award-winning humanitarian storyteller and communications strategist whose work spans some of the world’s most complex and inspiring places. Ryan’s work has taken him across continents and his stories have been published and shared globally, recognised for their honesty, humanity, and visual depth.
Since 2014, Ryan has been working in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Having spent much of his time in Eastern DRC, he has witnessed both the challenges and the extraordinary creativity of the Congolese people. He co-founded Kitoko Oyo, a grassroots multimedia movement dedicated to helping change the global narrative around Congo by showcasing beauty, strength, and the work of young Congolese innovators.
Ryan first connected with Malembe Rise in 2018 and has joined the team on multiple visits to Kinshasa, championing the stories of Malembe Rise and the Club of Leaders, and he looks forward to continuing his commitment to amplifying Congolese voices and advancing storytelling that truly drives change.
Based in Adelaide, Australia, Ryan also leads communications and storytelling at Uniting Communities, one of South Australia's largest not for profits, creating campaigns and stories that reach more than 85,000 people across 100 community services each year.
